Today we'll be discussing how to apply AI to the four core pillars of a business: Marketing, Sales, Fulfillment/Operations and Finance. First, we'll explore how you can use artificial intelligence to streamline your operations and sales activities. Then in our next issue, we'll explore how you can use it for marketing and finance. Let’s dive in. As an AI text generator, it makes sense people think of ChatGPT as a marketing tool. You can use it to create content, brainstorm ideas, and even create graphics for different types of media. In reality, however, the AI landscape goes much deeper than just ChatGPT. Further, just because AI text generators are good at pumping out written content doesn't mean that's all they're useful for. In fact, in many cases, these tools are even better at non-marketing tasks. #1 - SalesHow could you possibly use AI to improve your sales conversations? First, an AI can help you/your salespeople brainstorm objections you/they might not have thought about during the prep phase. As you likely know, failing to address an important objection can kill a deal before the call even ends. With AI, however, you can identify unexpected angles a buyer might use to trip you up. Second, you can use AI to research the prospect's company, industry, etc. While salespeople normally do this work using search engines, apps like Perplexity and Gemini - which scan the net in near real-time - allow for deeper and more accurate research. Third, you can automate much of the lead management process. From updating a lead's status in your CRM, to scheduling automated follow-up, tasks that normally suck up hours per week could be handled in a matter of minutes using simple prompts. Fourth, you and/or your salespeople can use AI to get help on live calls. By filling out a prompt ahead of time, and adjusting one or two blanks during the call, coming up with insightful responses mid-call has never been easier. Fifth, while we don't necessarily encourage this, there are multiple AIs that can cold call prospects on your behalf. Given how new these tools are, it's likely the person on the receiving end will be able to tell it's an AI. But as these tools get better (some companies are already using voice-based AI for inbound customer service calls), I imagine these robo-dialers will get better over time. Last, given tools like ChatGPT allow you to interact using voice, you/your team can also role-play sales calls ahead of time. As an example, you could ask the AI to behave based on different personality types (alpha, analytical, etc.). #2 - OperationsOoooo, so much potential here. First, if you run a service business, most if not all of your client onboarding process can be automated using AI (ignoring tasks like welcome calls, etc). Examples include adjusting a templated welcome email, transferring projects from sales to an Account Manager based on a trigger, and more. Then, once the client is onboarded, you can likely use AI to help fulfill the service itself. As you likely know, there are apps for most every agency service under the sun, from media buying to SEO to graphic design and more. Last, you can also use artificial intelligence for client management. From scheduling and confirming check-in calls to creating invoices in a matter of seconds, AI can be used to automate much of the manual labor involved in managing clients. Second, if you sell products (including digital and physical ones), you can also use AI in your fulfillment. From AI-powered inventory management software, to brainstorming a new product line based on current marketing conditions, AI works just as well for product-based businesses as it does service-based ones. In fact, if you're selling digital products (virtual art, courses, eBooks, etc.), odds are you can build your product from the ground up using artificial intelligence. Or would you feel more comfortable using it for tasks where there's a correct and incorrect response, for example in finance or accounting?
